Thanks to a wonderful a creative young thing for this snazzy flyer. We have a very exciting full week of creative sustainable sewing coming up in the next school break! Yahoo! Kicking into October (1st - 4th) with a big colourful bang, we are learning to sew, learning to op shop, and refashioning up a storm at the Thames Youth Centre. I'm really looking forward to working with some young'ns and seeing what up-cycled creations come out of this. Hands On / Words Off at Survive & Thrive

On friday I had the privilege to host a hands on workshop for the first two sessions of the Survive & Thrive smart thinking event for creatives. The main theme for the event was It's the future already! all ready? With my conscious crafting, re-think re-make workshop, I wanted to inspire thoughts & conversations about an exciting way forward to the future - via vintage, history & the past, utilising the resources we currently have here with us on the earth. The idea for the space was to collage pictures from the past to create postcards for future fortunes.
Now, to be honest, I thought people would be coming to the conference to head straight into lecture theatres & listen. I really didn't think I would have such the crowd surrounding my table, merrily chatting & crafting at 10am! Wowee I was blown away with the enthusiasm and love for getting hands on with making, we even had to rally in more chairs! & I've been stoked with the positive feedback: "I love to do this, but never make time for it, thank you"..."This was so unexpected and the highlight of my day"
I was even more blown away with the amazing creativity coming out on to the postcards. I was so inspired by such eclectic mash ups of bits n caboodle's. Maps, geometic knitting patterns, vintage tips & hints, solarsystems, stamping, drawing, sewing & good ol fashioned crayolla crayons to boot. I felt really blessed to sit around the large round table with such awesome curling creative minds. It was a colourful mess of real art!
Special Special thanks to the Arts Regional Trustthebigidea who put on Survive & Thrive, and to all the great volunteers especially the wonderful Julia at my table who was an amazing help. Also Elise my sidekick who was such a helpful sweetheart who even brought me a lunch box! Check out her cute postcard here already winging its way overseas no doubt. Mid Week Makers series at Bounty Store

I dont usually turn my back on my class working hard - but I had to for a cheesy photo :) ohh hiiii !! Here we are at Bounty Store - Where I work a few days a week proudly promoting & selling NZ made art & crafts. Last night we kicked off the Mid Week Makers series: A lovely bunch of wednesday night workshops, up-cycling fabrics, sewing, crafting, with a few nibbles & a lot of laughs too. Actually if it wasn't for my mum (they rock don't they!?) there wouldn't have been such scrumptious nibbles - so epic thanks to her! xxx We made fabric bead necklaces and rosette brooches using the smallest and scrapy-est of throwaway fabrics. If you live local in the Coro get in touch to book in for our other workshops.

Sewing Lounge Pop up in Grey Lynn

Erin's instagram pic sums up the feelings of the day quite well... In need of a sit down & a cuppa tea, colour, fabrics, sweet cupcakes, and loads of sunshine streaming in! Sew September is all about giving people an opportunity to sew, so on Sat we popped up a sewing lounge in Grey Lynn with 2nd hand fabrics, needles, threads, patterns the lot.. 7 machines & an overlocker and the machines were full all day. Such fun! People learned to sew on buttons, draft pattern pieces, use the overlocker for the first time, rework some vintage, and one sat merrily unpicking rows and rows of elastic shirring - such dedication! Cant wait to do it all again in Titirangi on the 21st. Here's a few snaps from some Sew Sept projects:
Big massive THANK YOU to the lovely Leigh (orders to 027 648 9305) who jumped on the Big Fair Bake buzz and made this delish batch of fair trade chocolate cupcakes for the day. They went down a treat. THANK YOU THANK YOU xxx I'm craving one now looking at the pics xxx

Upcycle Parnell Handstitchin' Sessions

Class 2 of Upcycle Parnell was pure testament to an 'organised chaos' (or creative chaos) lifestyle. Everyone dove into the colour head first and came out with some super stitched prettyness. We made brooches and bangles out of fabric scraps, and looked at different ways to use t-shirt twine - these ladies will never look at their offcuts quite the same... Sew looking forward to our next class, refashioning shirts for work!
